S1
Pupils in S1 will receive two periods of Design and Technology per week. The two
periods are split into to discrete periods of Design and Manufacture and Graphic
Communication.
Design and Manufacture
The aim of the first year course in Design and Manufacture is for pupils to gain
confidence and dexterity in the use of materials, tools and equipment and apply these
skills to make quality products in both metal and wood. Pupils will manufacture a
cargo boat, car design activity, key tag and garden trowel.
Graphic Communication
In Graphic Communication pupils are introduced to the subject through units in measuring,
sketching, drawing board skills, illustration and 3D modelling computer graphics.
